Bowie & Dick Sterilization Test

The Bowie & Dick test verifies proper air evacuation from the sterilization chamber and complete steam penetration into porous materials.

This test simulates the actual operation of the autoclave and evaluates, in particular:

• the effectiveness of the pre-vacuum, ensuring uniform steam penetration into the cavities;
• the temperature and saturated steam pressure values reached during the sterilization cycle.

Each test pack consists of an outer cardboard box with a process indicator for steam cycles, containing two cellulose filter layers and a Bowie & Dick test plate in the center.
The indicator, covered with a plastic film, does not release ink and provides a clean and precise reading of the results.

The packaging of the EC.STEAM 98 S pack ensures consistent compactness, allowing uniform steam penetration through the paper rather than through any potential gaps between the sheets.
All materials used are safe and suitable for medical use.

An integrated external indicator changes from blue to gray/black after treatment, making it easy to distinguish between treated and untreated packs.

Compliant with international standards, this test is essential for the daily verification of steam autoclaves, ensuring the safety and performance of the sterilization process.
